ABOUT
Cellulose Insulation

Cellulose insulation is a fiber-based product composed largely of recycled paper. Compared with other insulation types, it contains a significantly higher proportion of recycled material—often up to 85% recycled newspaper. The paper is broken down into fibers and installed densely, improving air sealing. During manufacturing the fibers are treated with non-hazardous additives like mineral borates to provide flame retardancy and resistance to pests and mold.

Cellulose Insulation Options

 Cellulose Insulation Advantages

Cellulose insulation is an exceptional insulation product that settles into tight spaces lending itself to be slightly better in terms of air sealing.

Environmentally Friendly

Cellulose is made of recycled materials and helps minimize our carbon footprint.

Less Expensive

Cellulose is generally less expensive than other insulation products.

Greater R-value Per Inch

Cellulose provides better thermal resistance per inch of applied thickness.

Non-Harmful

Unlike other insulation, cellulose contains no harsh chemicals that could lead to irritations, rashes, or sensitivities.

Cellulose Insulation FAQs

What is Cellulose insulation?

Cellulose insulation is primarily made from recycled paper.

Is Cellulose insulation flammable?

By law, all cellulose insulation must be treated for flame resistance; this treatment helps slow the spread of fire.

Does Cellulose Insulation settle?

It does. However, certified installers apply insulation to an "installed thickness" that accounts for future settling.

How is cellulose insulation different from fiberglass?

Cellulose insulation penetrates small cracks and voids more effectively than fiberglass and, being denser, provides superior air-sealing performance.

Is Cellulose insulation environmentally friendly?

Absolutely. Cellulose insulation—made of roughly 82% post-consumer waste paper—is one of the most environmentally friendly insulation options available.
